As a gas cools it takes up less volume. Think about a balloon that is blown up when the temp is 80*F. If the room cools to 30*F, what happens to the balloon? It shrinks. The same amount of gas is in the balloon, but it is at a lower pressure (and volume) due to the decrease in temperature. If you don't believe me, try it. If you have it right, tanks of gasses would explode when they get cold, not when they get hot.
